Posted in Uncategorized on May 1, 2008 by zacharydtaylorI think the project I enjoyed doing the most was the Video Project. Since my goal is to do something along the lines of video production or video editing, I am going to talk about the importance of video editing. Although we weren’t sent out to do any of the shooting, we were just giving footage to edit, I am going to talk about the several steps to putting together a successful video piece.
Editing begins before you shoot. Things such as script breakdown, locations of where you want to shoot your footage, storyboards and shot lists are all incredibly important in creating a film, a television show, a commercial, etc.
When shooting your footage, there a plethora of important concepts. For example, choosing the correct angles for your shots as well as the type of lens you use for your shot are extremely key in producing a piece of video. Also, shooting ratio and duration of your shots are equally as important.
Finally, editing the footage brings everything together. Organization is probably the most crucial aspect to video editing. Naming pieces of footage and getting rid of cluttered footage is what will keep you organized while in the process of editing. The assembly stage is where you get all of your footage on the time line and you get rid of the cluttered footage that isn’t necessary; it is almost like a rough over-view. After that, your goal should be to get the footage down to an actual time. Obviously if it is a film you would want to get it down to around 2 hours. If it is a commercial, 30 second to a minute and if it is a television show, 25 minutes to an hour will suffice. The final procedure is to get your piece down to an actual time that is required. Also, you want to have all of your audio synced with equal volume levels, voice overs, music, sound effects, what ever your project requires.
My Digital Life
Posted in Uncategorized on May 1, 2008 by zacharydtaylorThere are a handful of open-source technology that I use daily. Probably the most significant piece of technology that I use is my lap top. I am on it daily, probably 3 to 4 times a day. My lap top is a MacBook Pro and it is probably the best investments that I’ve made.
Another open-source piece of technology that I use daily is my iPod. I have a 30 GB iPod that I have had for over 2 years now. I have over 4 days of music on it and I never leave my house with out it.
The second most important piece of open-source technology that I use is my cell-phone. I have a T-Mobile Sidekick 3. Although I don’t have the internet on my Sidekick, I do have unlimited text messaging that I use frequently.

Finally, when I have some down time, my favorite thing to do is play my Playstation 3. Although the graphics are very good and the game play is up to date, it seems as though it freezes routinely.
